When you receive your ballot by mail, follow these instructions to mark your ballot and sign and seal it for return

Short version: you can vote in every race — and the ballot question — that appears on your ballot. Read carefully to see if you can vote for one or two candidates in any given race.
Every voter has the opportunity to vote for up to 26 candidates and one ballot question in the 2025 Newton municipal election:
One or no candidates in the mayor race
Two, one or no candidates in each of the eight at-large City Council races (one per ward) — up to 16 total
One or no candidates in each of the eight School Committee races (one per ward) — up to 8 total
One or no candidate in the ward race in your ward
A yes or no vote or no vote on the parking ban ballot question
You have the opportunity to vote for up to 26 candidates across all races.
This does not include Neighborhood Area Council races.

Vote by absentee ballot
Eligibiilty for an absentee ballot
Be away from Newton on Election Day; or
Have a disability that keeps you from voting at your polling place; or
Have a religious belief that prevents you from voting at your polling place on Election Day
Complete the absentee ballot application by 5 PM on the 5th business day before the election
